How To Write A Dental Blog Post Fast When You’re Up Against It

how to write a dental blog post fast

One of the key drivers of traffic to your dental website is blogging, or rather… doing it consistently. However time restraints can often get the better of all good intentions, and before long your dental blog has fallen by the wayside. For this reason, knowing how to write a dental blog post fast when you’re seriously up against it, is a great tool to have in your marketing arsenal.

Before I go into details however I have a confession to make…..

I’m not perfect and I don’t always practice what I preach. There I said it!

As you might have guessed we’re a dental writing team whose job it is to maintain blogs and websites for multiple dentists and this we do successfully. Yet, when it comes to maintaining our own website blog, I find myself coming up with a million and one reasons why today isn’t a ‘good time’ to write a blog post for our site. As such, maintaining it is always a self-induced struggle. This is something I really tend to beat myself up about, and rightly so. After all, I should know better right?

Therefore in a way, this post is a kind of self-flagellation (virtually speaking of course) of what I should be practising, as much as it is helpful for you. Hope that’s okay with you!

Anyway, getting back to the task at hand. Just how do you write a dental blog post fast when you don’t have the time or the procrastination factor starts to set in? The good news is that it isn’t as hard as you (or I) think.

How To Write A Dental Blog Post Fast – Keep A Back-Catalogue Of Ideas

Even the most successful or frequent bloggers get writer’s block. Therefore at times when the ideas are freely flowing, write them down in a book. This way when you need to bang out a blog post quickly, you’ve already got the bones of an idea in place, thus saving you heaps of time.

In addition, you might want to look at a blogging template. Brainstorming ideas is arguably the most time-consuming process of content marketing so why not get it over with in one hit.  Marketing company Hubspot has a great editorial blogging guide that you can download for free. Look to compose a list of blog posts for a one month period using a blogging calendar.  It might go something like this:

  • Weeks 1 and 3  – Topics that you can walk readers through step by step – More commonly known as ‘How To’ topics
  • Weeks 2 and 4 – Industry trends. eg, What’s happening in the dental industry right now that you’d like to share with your readers
  • Weeks 1 and 3 – Answer some of the most popular questions your audience wants to know – You can even use the question as a blog title and the answer as your post
  • Weeks 2 and 4 – List based posts – 5 advantages of XYZ, or 10 factors you didn’t know about ABC

Before you know it, you’ve spend a couple of hours brainstorming and you’ve got  a month’s worth of 8 blog posts that you can write.

Top tip – A while back I complied a post detailing 27 blogging ideas for self blogging dentists. So you can always use that if you’re really struggling.

How To Write A Dental Blog Post Fast – Structure Posts Before Writing

This is one of the key factors in knowing how to write a dental blog post fast and this is what I’m actually doing in this post. After compiling a list of sub-headings that best explain the overall post, I’ve gone on to fill out each sub-section with an accumulation of text and bullet points.

Avoid long sentences where you can easily get bogged down and instead keep them short and concise with 3-4 sentences per paragraph. Writing content this way is far less overwhelming and dare I say it… quicker (so far so good!).

How To Write A Dental Blog Post Fast-Focus

The main problem that I and many others come up against in understanding how to write a dental blog post fast is not one of not knowing what to write, but one of distraction.

I know for example that I can write a relatively good blog post within an hour, especially if it’s on a subject I’m familiar with. However, the problem comes when I get distracted. I start checking emails, get into phone conversations, or even start to gaze out of the window thinking that I’d rather be outside than stuck here writing this. Suddenly that quick blog post is now taking a lot longer than it needs to.

What I really need to do is to say no to distractions. What the experts recommend is to remove yourself away from others, put your headphones on, and lock yourself away in a room for an hour or so, and see just how productive you are. This is one reason why I’m writing this on a Sunday morning – No distractions.

How To Write A Dental Blog Post Fast -The Prettying Up Process

Finally, when you’ve written your post you’ll need to add images. Not only do images help to break up the content, but they also draw the eye of the reader down the page so that it makes it easier for them to scan. In addition, when they share your post on social media sites, it makes it more visually enticing too.

That said, finding the perfect images to pretty up your post can be a real time-drainer if you let it. Therefore use sites such as Pixabay. They have a multitude of free stock images that you can quickly and easily download, so set yourself a time limit of say 10 minutes and get it done.

So there we have it… how to write a dental blog post fast, when you’re up against it! To prove a point, this post is just over a 1000 words and it’s taken me 1 hour and 16 minutes to complete. So by following the same processes, you or I (note to self)  in the future should still be able to maintain our dental blogging prowess, even when the going gets tough.
